What if, instead of planning what we want 5 or 10 years down the line, we focus on what we want one year from now? This is the question that entrepreneur Hailey Thomas has built her system of career coaching around. This week, Hailey says goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021 with her business and revenue review. This episode is all about highs and lows, podcasting and pandemics, and so much more.
Rallying around revenue
As 2019 gave into 2020, Hailey planned large revenue goals for herself and for her two businesses. With large monetary goals as her guiding principles, she became overly focused on the perceived feelings around these milestones and found herself rocked with the realization that, due to plans changing and pandemics emerging, she didn’t entirely reach all of her revenue goals in the way she initially wanted. However, with proper context and perspective, Hailey has set new and improved revenue and business goals for the upcoming year, allowing herself to feel pride in her accomplishments instead of shame in what she didn’t get a chance to do yet.
“As you’re doing this vision casting work and this reflection work, there’s probably things that you’ve internalized that you didn’t know you internalized.”
Rationalizing the irrational
Considering the unprecedented year that 2020 became, Hailey had to reorient a lot of her goals around newly enforced pandemic restrictions, allowing her to take more of her business online and to go all-in on her career coaching ambitions. Previously, Hailey had avoided going all-in on selling her coaching services, but coronavirus offered the unique opportunity for her to expand and grow in ways she never would have imagined before, utilizing platforms like Zoom to create experiences that impacted her clients in a positive way.
“I think I’m, in general, a minimalist. I want as few things as possible that create the outcome that I want.”
Rebranding and refocusing
Looking forward to 2021, Hailey has further plans to relaunch and revamp older concepts, while incorporating fresh audiences and ideas. From 2020’s success, she has a lot of great work ahead of her that she hopes all of her listeners and clients will get to be a part of. While Hailey plans to concentrate and focus her efforts on her coaching and her businesses, she’s not afraid of the moments that will make 2021 unique and special too.
“I’ve created a container that allows for sharp coaching, for challenging coaching, but also for immense growth.”
